Context  &  Challenge

BeeLife is a European non-profit organisation dedicated to protecting bees and pollinators while promoting biodiversity across agriculture, urban areas and natural ecosystems.

Its work brings together scientific research, environmental advocacy, beekeeping expertise and European policy discussions, creating a communication environment where highly technical information must be translated into accessible communication for diverse audiences.

The challenge is not only communicating scientific evidence and policy recommendations, but transforming complex topics into content capable of informing decision-makers, engaging stakeholders and reaching the wider public without compromising accuracy.

Role & Communication System

My role focuses on leading the visual communication and digital design efforts supporting BeeLife’s organisational activities, advocacy campaigns, scientific communication and EU-funded projects.

I am responsible for maintaining and evolving the organisation’s visual communication ecosystem, including branding, website communication, multimedia production, social media content and digital communication assets.

The role combines communication design, digital content production and information design, helping translate scientific research, policy-related content and advocacy initiatives into communication adapted to policymakers, researchers, beekeepers, journalists and public audiences.

In addition to content creation, I oversee the visual consistency of communication across BeeLife’s digital platforms, campaigns and project activities, ensuring alignment between organisational objectives, communication strategy and visual execution.

Brand & Digital Ecosystem

One of my first major contributions at BeeLife was the modernisation of the organisation’s visual identity and digital presence.

This involved evolving the existing brand system, establishing visual standards across communication materials and redesigning the organisation’s website to better support its growing communication activities.

Beyond the website itself, the work focused on creating a scalable communication framework capable of supporting policy communication, scientific dissemination, advocacy campaigns and EU-funded projects.

Key contributions included:

  • Website redesign and ongoing development

  • CMS management and content organisation

  • Visual identity evolution

  • Social media templates

  • Presentation templates

  • Institutional communication assets

  • Cross-platform communication systems

The objective was to create a more cohesive and adaptable visual ecosystem capable of supporting BeeLife’s communication across multiple audiences, formats and digital channels.

Science & Policy Communication

A core part of my work involves translating scientific research and policy-related information into communication formats that remain accessible without compromising accuracy.

This includes designing policy briefs, developing visual communication assets based on scientific publications and creating communication materials used to support engagement with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), policymakers and institutional stakeholders.

The work combines information design, visual hierarchy and communication strategy to help transform complex environmental and regulatory topics into formats that are easier to understand, share and discuss across both specialised and public-facing audiences.

Scientific papers, policy documents and advocacy positions are frequently adapted into infographics, digital communication assets, social media content and multimedia formats designed to extend their reach beyond institutional contexts.

Campaign Communication

Advocacy campaigns are an important part of BeeLife’s communication strategy, helping translate scientific evidence and policy discussions into public-facing initiatives capable of reaching citizens, stakeholders and decision-makers.

Throughout my work at BeeLife, I have contributed to a wide range of awareness and advocacy campaigns addressing topics such as pollinator protection, pesticide reduction, biodiversity conservation, food systems and environmental policy.

The examples below represent a selection of campaigns chosen to illustrate different aspects of my contribution, including digital communication, multimedia production, event communication and public engagement

For Health, Bees & Farmers

For Health, Bees & Farmers is a European coalition campaign advocating for a transition towards healthier food systems, stronger pollinator protection and reduced dependence on synthetic pesticides. The initiative brings together environmental organisations, beekeepers, farmers and citizens around the need for agricultural policies that better protect biodiversity, public health and long-term food security.

Supporting the campaign from BeeLife’s communication team, I developed a dedicated landing page and produced digital content used to increase campaign visibility across the organisation’s channels. This included social media carousels, short-form video content and campaign visuals designed to communicate the campaign’s objectives and encourage public engagement.

Pesticide Action Week

Pesticide Action Week is an international awareness initiative dedicated to raising public attention to the environmental and health impacts associated with pesticide use while promoting sustainable alternatives.

As part of BeeLife’s participation, communication activities supported a public demonstration organised in Brussels in front of CropLife Europe. My work combined communication design, event coverage and multimedia production, including the creation of printed communication materials such as posters, banners and a large-scale protest billboard used during the mobilisation. I also documented the event through photography and video production while creating social media content that extended the initiative’s visibility beyond the event itself.

Organisational Communication & Events

Beyond publications and advocacy campaigns, BeeLife actively participates in international conferences, stakeholder meetings and public events that bring together researchers, beekeepers, policymakers and environmental organisations. These gatherings provide opportunities to share scientific knowledge, strengthen partnerships and increase the visibility of initiatives supporting pollinator protection and sustainable food systems.

My role extends beyond event documentation and focuses on transforming these activities into communication assets capable of reaching audiences before, during and after the event. Through photography, videography and multimedia content, events become an extension of BeeLife's broader communication strategy.

Apimondia 2025  &  Pollinating EU

Apimondia 2025 brought together the international beekeeping community around scientific exchange, innovation and pollinator health. As part of the congress, BeeLife organised Pollinating EU, a side event hosted at the Danish Parliament that explored the role of pollinators in biodiversity, agriculture and European environmental policy.

Supporting BeeLife's participation across both initiatives, I produced promotional reels and event recap videos designed to extend their visibility beyond the events themselves. For Pollinating EU, I designed the promotional poster used to communicate the side event, while for Apimondia I created three scientific posters presented by BeeLife's Executive Director, Noa Simon Delso, during the congress. These materials covered topics such as the Pollinator Metadata Standard, the VARROMETER tool and biomonitoring research on agrochemical exposure

EU BeeLovers Launch

The official launch of the EU BeeLovers campaign marked the beginning of a European initiative promoting European honey, pollinator protection and more sustainable food systems. Hosted at the Natural History Museum in Brussels, the event brought together stakeholders, journalists and representatives from the beekeeping sector for a press conference and seminar dedicated to biodiversity, European honey and the future of beekeeping .

Supporting the communication surrounding the event, I produced promotional content ahead of the launch and documented the event through photography and video production. This included the creation of the official event poster, developed using the visual identity and branding framework I previously established for the EU BeeLovers project, as well as promotional social media content and an event recap reel used to extend the launch's visibility across BeeLife's digital channels.

EU-Funded Projects

Alongside BeeLife's organisational communication, I contribute to several European-funded projects focused on pollinator monitoring, data infrastructure and public engagement. These initiatives bring together research centres, technology partners, institutions and communication agencies to address challenges related to pollinator health and biodiversity.

Unlike BeeLife's day-to-day communication activities, these projects require dedicated visual systems and communication assets capable of translating scientific concepts, digital tools and technical information into content adapted to diverse audiences, including researchers, beekeepers, policymakers and the general public.

Depending on each project's needs, my role ranges from creative direction and visual coordination to multimedia production, motion graphics, 3D visualisation, graphic design and website communication. The following examples represent selected projects developed within the broader BeeLife ecosystem and are presented as individual case studies.

EU BeeLovers

EU BeeLovers is a European campaign co-funded by the European Union that aims to promote European honey, pollinator protection and sustainable food systems through public engagement and awareness.

As part of BeeLife's internal team, my role focuses on creative direction and visual coordination. Acting as the bridge between BeeLife and external communication agencies, I help define visual expectations, review communication proposals and maintain consistency across branding and campaign assets. I also developed presentation systems and social media templates used throughout the project.

EU Pollinator Hub

The EU Pollinator Hub is an initiative supported by EFSA and developed by BeeLife together with several partners to centralise pollinator and beekeeping data, transforming fragmented information into accessible tools supporting research, monitoring and environmental decision-making.

Supporting the project's communication activities, I produced promotional motion graphics, tutorial videos and communication materials while contributing to the maintenance and continuous update of the platform's website.

IoBee

The Internet of Bees (IoBee) was a multidisciplinary European project combining in-hive sensors, cloud applications and satellite imagery to monitor bees and their environment, creating tools for beekeepers, researchers and policymakers.

My work focused on multimedia communication, including the production of a promotional video, 3D modelling and animation of monitoring devices, brochures and graphic assets, while also supporting the development of the project's website.

Outcome

This work has contributed to strengthening BeeLife’s communication ecosystem across scientific communication, policy outreach, public campaigns, digital platforms and EU-funded initiatives.

By combining branding, website design, information design, multimedia production and communication strategy, the role supports BeeLife in making complex environmental topics more accessible to policymakers, researchers, stakeholders and the wider public.

The project demonstrates how multidisciplinary design can support organisations operating at the intersection of science, policy and public awareness, helping complex information reach audiences in ways that are clear, engaging and actionable.
